Insurance and Legal - Classic Car Transport - Fully Enclosed and Open Trailer Transportation for Vintage and Classic Cars, Sports and Competition Cars, Kit and Performance Cars of all types.

Your vehicle, vehicle spares and accessories are legally and comprehensively insured whilst in our care with an exclusive Classic Car and Specialist Motor Trade Policy with the Norwich Union.

Our business is solely for Specialist Single Vehicle Car Transportation. We are not a recovery service. We are governed by law with strict rules and regulations laid down by the Department for Transport Vehicle and Operators Services Agency (VOSA), and we comply without question in all respects.

We transport using a separate four wheel drive vehicle fitted with a tachograph pulling an Enclosed Motorshuttle Car Trailer or Open Flatbed Car Trailer. We therefore do not require an Operators Licence.

The regulations that apply to a separate tow vehicle plus trailer with a combined Train Weight of more than 3500kgs and being used for commercial purposes are:

  • Our towing vehicle must be fitted with a fully calibrated and operational tachograph. It must be used at all times whilst towing commercially by us.
  • Our tow vehicle does not weigh more than 3500kgs Gross Vehicle Weight (the weight on its own) and therefore does not require by law to have an Operators Licence displayed on the windscreen. This point does apply however to any vehicle of more than 3500kgs GVW such as some recovery and transporter trucks which must have the licence in force and displayed.
  • Our trailers weigh less than 1020kg unladen which excludes the need for an Operators licence.
  • We can legally transport vehicles upto 17 feet long, 6 foot 10 inches wide with a vehicle weight upto 2200kgs.
  • Our vehicles are compliant with the new London Low Emission Zone regulations effective from 4.2.08

Please note that asking a few simple questions  when choosing your preferred transportation service will avoid any risk of your vehicle being uninsured or possibly impounded by the Vehicle Inspectorate.

You should ask the Operator:

  • What type of insurance they have to cover your  vehicle and any spare parts to their true value.
  • The type of vehicle being used for transportation and if a tachograph is fitted and being used. Is an Operators Licence being displayed if the vehicle is over 3500kgs GVW and if the unladen weight of the trailer is more than 1020kgs.
  • The load capacity of the trailer or transporter.
  • Is transporting classic cars, specialist vehicles etc their main activity.
